Why I wrote JANE  LONG'S  JOURNEY

In 1998 people in Texas celebrated the 200th birthday of the woman called "The Mother of Texas."   Texas is big on celebration of such things!
Someone has said that when the going gets tough, the tough get goingWho would have guessed such a thing would be true of a beautiful, headstrong, wealthy, spoiled young woman.
Against her family's wishes, Jane Wilkinson married James Long at  a very young age.  Stubbornness of that kind probably helped her face difficult situations that came soon and often.
After her husband's death, she charmed her boarding house guests.  In a day when women were not supposed to know much except how to take care of a family, she could talk with anyone.  One of her guests commented on her ability to converse equally with fools and learned men.   During her long life, she never lost that spark.
Sometimes ordinary people do extraordinary things.  I admired Jane Long's spunk.
